Blue Trees

The blue trees have taken up their roots and are looking for new soil. Seriously, if you would like to borrow the blue trees idea or materials for use in your community or on your campus, drop us a line. We can loan out our solar-powered blue LED lights and let you use our website and research.

Blue Trees is a project to provide communciation prostheses to selected trees. The device has two way functionality; it allows the trees to report temperature and other environmental conditions, foliage and sap levels, and other environmental parameters to observers (terrestrial and extra-terrestrial); the tree also serves a bulletin board for other organisms to communicate to the tree and other observers.

The communication device consists of four bands of blue lights around the tree trunk. Under non-interactive interaction, the lights operate sequentially. Each elevation represents expected future sea-level rise for the specified city.
